Celebrate Dental Assistants⏤This Week!

Dental assistants play a key role in the dental practice fulfilling multiple duties such as keeping patient records, taking x-rays, and assisting in dental procedures. The dental assistant is truly the backbone of the dental practice, the office just wouldn’t function properly without them!

Tanks to the American Dental Assistant Association, we’re able to participate in a global celebration to thank dental assistants for all their hard work and dedication. The week of March 3rd-9th, 2019 is Dental Assistant Recognition Week (DARW)! This week we celebrate the impact dental assistants have on our health!

What Exactly is Dental Assistant Recognition Week?

Dental Assistant Recognition Week is held the first full week in March every year. It has been celebrated since Marc of 1978! DARW is the perfect time to thank a dental assistant for providing patients with quality dental care. Dental practices observe the week by participating in educational or charity events. Some dentists also show appreciation by rewarding their staff with lunches or gifts.

DARW 2019 Theme: “Poised, Polished, & Professional”

Each DARW has a different theme. For example, the theme of 2018 was “Advancing the Profession Through Collaboration and Leadership” and the theme for 2019 is “Poised, Polished, & Professional”. While the overall theme of Dental Assistant Recognition Week changes each year, the main focus remains the same. The main focus of DARW is to share the important role dentistry plays in our overall health and to celebrate the dental professionals within the field.

Ways You Can Celebrate DARW 2019

There are so many different ways to celebrate dental assistants this week. Whether you work in a dental practice or are just an appreciative patient, there are a few simple ways to celebrate DARW 2019!

  • If you’re a patient wanting to celebrate, you could bring gifts to your dental practice. The gift could be something for the entire dental staff to enjoy or just something for your regular dental assistant. You could bring a floral arrangement, treats, or a gift card for example.
  • If you’re a dentist, don’t miss out on celebrating DARW. It’s the perfect time to acknowledge the important role they play in the office. You could decorate your office, encourage patients to join the celebrations, or take your staff out to lunch to show your appreciation.
