Addressing Your Strengths

In order to capitalize on your strengths, you must first be aware of what they are. Avoid textbook answers such as, ”I’m hard-working, dedicated, and organized.” Your goal should be to provide strengths that support your niche and create a point of difference from other candidates. Utilize your strengths to show you’re the most qualified for the position. Show your answer is credible by providing a true story that demonstrates the quality.

Sometimes, it can be difficult to identify our strengths. If this is the case for you, asking unbiased people, like past teachers or coworkers, for their thoughts may be beneficial!

Owning Up to Your Weaknesses

A common fear about interviews is being honest when answering the “greatest weakness” question. It’s common for interviewees to avoid this question by disguising a strength as a weakness by saying, “I work too hard” or “I’m upset when I miss a deadline.” These are not weaknesses. Logically, no person is going to admit that they don’t work hard enough or are happy to procrastinate and miss deadlines.

Interviewers want to hear honest answers. Acknowledging the areas in which you don’t excel and how you’re working to turn weaknesses into strengths is a great way to show self-awareness, your willingness to be open and honest, and problem-solving within your own life.

Establishing Your Personal Brand

The most employable candidates are those capable of defining who they are. It’s essential to be self-aware. Understanding your reputation and being able to convey this image effectively to every person you come in contact with is vital.

At this time, ask yourself, “How do I prove who I am?” Interviewing isn’t solely about selling yourself or self-promotion. Interviewers want to hear how you are able to use your strengths and capabilities to assist them and their company. Establish a relationship with your interviewer.

Be transparent with your answers and in conversation. Most importantly, your personal brand must capture their attention, provide relevant benefits to the company, and be memorable.

Visualize Yourself with the Company

Interviewers will often expect that you’ve done your research and know the details of the job and the basics of the company atmosphere. So, prepare beforehand. By taking the time to learn about the role, you demonstrate that you genuinely intend to join the team. Allow interviewers to visualize you in the role by discussing how the company could benefit from your contribution. Just be sure that you’re not coming across overly confident or critical.
